A Nation of Sports Fans or Participants: Leveraging Sports to Combat Inactivity and Sustain Growth.
In response to the growing challenges of inactivity and its profound consequences for population health, Mark delves into novel strategies for sport and leisure operators. Drawing from lessons learned and emerging insights, this interactive presentation explores practical solutions to grow and enhance sports participation across diverse demographic groups. It focuses on addressing declining activity levels while prioritising sustainability by identifying new revenue opportunities amid the rising costs of operation.
Intro to Mark

Mark began his career as a PE teacher, advancing to Head of Department and School Improvement Consultant. His work with the Commonwealth Games 2002 organising team sparked a transition into Sport Development and public sector leadership as Head of Service for Sport and Physical Activity. Mark went onto spend 13 years at Chief Executive level for public leisure organisations where he led transformative change, driving innovation and enhancing service delivery across sport, health, education and social service sectors. Recognised with the ukactive Outstanding Leadership Award, he now leads The Performance Blueprint, empowering organisations to achieve sustainable success through leadership and high-performing cultures.

We’ll cover improving customer experience, tightening up systems and building confident leaders. It’s interactive, with group work to help you find a quick win and figure out the next steps for long-term growth.

With over 14 years in the industry, KJ brings a wealth of experience in fitness, business growth and leadership. A founding member of 3-1-5 Health Club and now co-founder of The Elevate Company, KJ is passionate about helping others raise their game.

Driven by a love for progress and purpose, KJ supports gyms, studios and swim schools to grow, perform and succeed. Known for high standards and positive energy, they’re all about motivating people, removing barriers and making things happen.

Intro to Zoe
Zoe is a member of STA’s Senior Management Team and has worked in the physical activity and sports development sector for more than 20 years. For the last 14 years, Zoe has worked for the STA, and in her current role works alongside the CEO to lead the charge in grassroots swimming in both the public and private sectors. Professionally, Zoe also has a wealth of knowledge and experience in marketing, currently holding a Level 6 CIM qualification in Professional and Digital Marketing. On a personal level, since studying Psychology, Health, and Exercise at university, she also has a passion for increasing activity and participation in aquatics, and in her spare time coaches artistic swimming to youngsters at her local club. Zoe is also a professional artistic swimmer and has competed at the highest levels all over the world.

Adam Daniel

Intro to Adam
Adam Daniel is a Human Performance and Leadership Coach former elite athlete and former gym owner, with over two decades of experience supporting high performers to thrive in life beyond the spotlight. Drawing on his own journey through elite sport and entrepreneurship, Adam brings a unique blend of lived experience, coaching psychology, and behavioural science to his work. He has coached athletes, senior leaders, and teams in over 20 countries, and now, among other things,  co- leads the Evolve to Thrive programme – supporting athletes to repurpose their drive, reconnect with purpose, and redefine success beyond sport. Known for his warm, grounded style and sharp insight, Adam creates the space for powerful conversations and lasting change.

Intro to Jake
Jake began his career as a carer supporting people with learning disabilities and autism, working across residential, secure, and community settings. Now Co-CEO of Sport for Confidence CIC, he leads an organisation that centres those furthest away from physical activity, combining occupational therapy, physical activity, and lived experience to break down barriers and tackle inequalities. Jake oversees strategic direction, operational delivery, and organisational culture, with a strong focus on staff wellbeing and co-production. He holds a degree in Positive Behaviour Support, which shapes his belief that all behaviour is a form of communication — a principle he brings to leadership and system change.
