FAQs
Is the venue accessible?
Entry is via ladder (no step-free access). The ramp to the pontoon can vary in steepness with water levels. If you have accessibility needs, please contact us in advance to discuss options.
Where is the nearest station to the venue
LOCATION, STATION & PARKING
London Royals Dock site is based at the west end of Royal Victoria Dock. Look for the pontoon opposite the City Hall Building – entrance is at the gate onto the pontoon. There are banners on the fencing by the gate and the pontoon is covered with green astro turf.
The closest station is Royal Victoria on the DLR and is only a few minutes walk. You can also reach us by the Emirates Skyline – the terminal is 100m from the entrance gate.
There is very limited parking in the area. Check the JustPark app for private spaces in Brittania Village which is a short walk from the venue. There is also some paid parking on Dock Road though this can be busy during the week.
Are showers available?
There are no indoor showers, but a cold rinse hose is available on the pontoon
Can I bring my own wetsuit and gear?
Yes – but HUUB is providing wetsuits, goggles, caps, free of charge to use at the event. If you’re using one of our wetsuits, don’t forget to check your size in the HUUB guide. Please provide us with your size when you book.
Why do I need a NOWCA account?
It’s part of the safety system used at Love Open Water. You’ll receive a wristband to scan in/out of the water. If you’re new to open water, the account will also give you access to future swims across the UK
Is there a Participant Declaration & Waiver to sign before I enter the water?
Yes, all participants must complete a Declaration & Waiver before entering the water. You can view it here ahead of time to prepare, and you’ll be able to sign it on the day, before you swim.
Are there changing rooms and toilets?
- Changing: Two unisex cubicles are available onsite – we recommend arriving ready to swim
- Toilets: No toilets at the venue. Facilities are available at the Good Hotel (300m away)
Is it safe?
Yes – we follow NOWCA protocols with mandatory safety wristbands, swim caps, tow floats, and a minimum of two lifeguards on duty. There’s a full safety briefing before the swim.
Is this suitable for beginners?
Absolutely! It’s not a race – just a friendly, relaxed swim in a looped course near the dock. You can take your time and get out whenever you like. First-timers welcome!
What if I need to cancel?
No problem – just email lesley.aitken@fitronics.com by Friday 6 June 2025 so we can offer your space to someone else.
